A person who has been designated or volunteered as a First Aider at work. All employers in the U.K. have a legal obligation to make First Aid provision for their employees. This is a refresher course for those who need to renew their First Aid at Work certificate and whose current certificate is still valid. Who should attend? Effective interventions in the following areas have shown to make a difference to survival outcome and are reflected in the FPOS awards framework. The course is accredited by Edexcel and clinical endorsement is through the Faculty of Pre-Hospital care; The Royal college of Surgeons (Edinburgh). Who should attend? Anyone who wishes to advance their first Aid and trauma care skills Course Content: Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Defibrillation Rhythm recognition Use of Suction Airway management Helmet removal Oxygen therapy Triage Scene management Acting safely Course duration: Basic (3 hours pre-study; 10 hours contact time; 2 hours assessment) Intermediate (3 hours pre-study; 30 hours contact time; 2 hours assessment) Certification: The awards will be valid for a period of three years from the date of successful completion. Candidates will be expected to maintain their skills and knowledge in accordance with their employing/responding organisation. ***************** 4) Emergency Aid for Appointed Persons This course is ideal for the smaller workplace where there are few health & safety risks and a nominated person is required to take charge in the event of illness or accident. Appointed Persons also give support to qualified First Aiders in larger organisations where the business operates over several floors or buildings, or shifts are operated. Who should attend? Administering CPR to a casualty who has stopped breathing can greatly increase their chance of survival. Who should attend? Anyone who has an interest in emergency aid Course Content: Managing an incident Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Care of the unconscious casualty Recovery position Choking Dealing with the victim of a heart attack Course duration: 2 hours Assessment: Continuous assessment by trainer Certification: A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the course. ***************** 6) Adult Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation Over 270,000 people suffer a heart attack every year in the U.K. Unfortunately 30% will not make it to hospital alive. The majority might have been saved had their heart been defibrillated in the first five minutes of their cardiac arrest. An AED unit with a trained operator at the site of a sudden cardiac arrest can raise the chance of survival from 0% to 80% Who should attend? No previous First Aid knowledge is necessary. This course is suitable for anyone interested furthering their emergency aid skills, or who works at a site where an AED is available. What will they learn? How to use an Automated External Defibrillator Course Content: Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation refresher Understanding the ‘chain of survival’ Operating the AED Acting safely Course duration: 2 hours Assessment: Continuous assessment by trainer Certification: A certificate will be issued (as per resus guidelines) on completion of the course ***************** 8) First Aid for Childminders This course has been designed to provide first aid training for staff caring for children and babies in the absence of their parents /guardians. This is an OFSTED recognised course and the certificate must be renewed every three years. We advise that all staff should refresh their paediatric basic life support skills at least every year. Serious sudden illness Bites and stings Fractures, sprains and strains Course duration: 12 hours Assessment: Final assessment of practical skills by independent assessors Multiple choice question paper Certification: A certificate valid for 3 years will be issued on successful completion of the assessments ***************** 9) Our Paediatric Life Support course gives parents, guardians and those who work with the young, the necessary knowledge and skill to deal with a first aid emergency, confidently. Who should attend? Parents and other people who look after children. Who should attend? Any employee who falls into the categories described above. It is advisable that employers conduct this training as part of an employee’s induction. What will they learn? This course will provide basic knowledge and understanding of fire, fire fighting and the duties of a fire marshal. Who should attend? All employees would benefit from this course Course Content: Importance of fire safety The triangle of combustion Classification of fire Types of fire extinguisher Other fire-fighting media Evacuation procedures Practical use of a fire extinguisher Course duration: Half day Certification: A certificate of attendance is issued on completion Forerunner Training also offer a comprehensive Fire Risk Assessment service, which is carried out by fully qualified members of the Institute of Fire Engineers who have nationally recognised Fire Safety qualifications. ***************** 12) Fire Risk Assessment In England, Scotland and Wales, Regulation 3 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires that all employers carry out a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to their employees, and to others, such as to enable the employer to comply with Part II of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 (as amended). If the employer employs five or more employees within the employer's entire organisation, regardless of the locations where they are employed, the significant findings of this fire risk assessment must be recorded. Objectives of risk assessment: Identifying fire hazards Identify location and persons at risk Reduce the risk, evaluate the risk, determine if existing arrangements are adequate or need improving Document the findings Leave a system where the risk assessment can be monitored and reviewed on a regular basis The risk assessments are undertaken by qualified, experienced fire safety inspectors to Local Authority Fire Brigade-Fire Safety Enforcement Officer Standards. The assessors have national recognised fire safety qualifications; these include all risk based approaches, fire engineering principals and full working knowledge of legislative requirements and guides, to produce a safe working environment based against life risk, costs and business continuity.
