First Person on Scene - Basic and Intermediate

The purpose of the First Person on Scene © (FPOS) awards is to provide immediate life support to the patient pending the arrival of definitive Pre-Hospital care. Effective interventions in the following areas have shown to make a difference to survival outcome and are reflected in the FPOS awards framework.

The course is accredited by Edexcel and clinical endorsement is through the Faculty of Pre-Hospital care; The Royal college of Surgeons (Edinburgh).


Who should attend?

  • Anyone who wishes to advance their first Aid and trauma care skills


Course Content

  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • Defibrillation
  • Rhythm recognition
  • Use of Suction
  • Airway management
  • Helmet removal
  • Oxygen therapy
  • Triage
  • Scene management
  • Acting safely


Course duration

  • Basic (3 hours pre-study; 10 hours contact time; 2 hours assessment)
  • Intermediate (3 hours pre-study; 30 hours contact time; 2 hours assessment)


Certification

  • The awards will be valid for a period of three years from the date of successful completion
  • Candidates will be expected to maintain their skills and knowledge in accordance with their employing/responding organisation
